Staffie and Stray Rescue work with pounds across the UK, helping dogs who have been unclaimed and in need of a rescue space
Staffie and Stray Rescue began in 2014 with one woman’s passion. Calli Byrne founded the rescue after realising how many Staffies ended up in rescue centres abandoned and also noticing the stigma attached to the breed, when she was walking her own Staffie and noticed that people would jump into the road to avoid her!
With determination to make a difference to dogs’ lives, this small charity built up a reputation rather quickly of helping bull breeds and in particular helping the more challenging dogs that were often left waiting in pounds.
Sadly in 2022, Calli lost her life following a short battle with cancer. It was a huge shock for the rescue world to lose such a force of nature and a woman who was well known for sticking up for the underdog. The rescue team were left strict instructions to continue without her and work hard to ensure that her legacy lives on.
Staffie and Stray Rescue also help owners who are no longer able to look after their dog.
The organisation pride themselves on a thorough rehoming criteria and process to ensure that all of their dogs find 5* happy homes!
Their expertise is in the Staffordshire bull terrier breed, but do take in other breeds who may need their help! The charity also specialise in working with dogs that are reactive towards other dogs.
Monies raised will go towards the charity’s ever increasing vet bills, support towards supplies for the dogs in their care and also contribute towards their boarding kennel fees.
