The Azerbaijani manat is the national currency of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The manat replaced the Soviet ruble in 1992. It was first introduced with the currency code AZM. In 2006, following years of high inflation, a new manat was introduced with currency code AZN, replacing the old manat at a rate of 5000 old to 1 new.

The current Azerbaijani Manat banknotes have a design that is similar to Euro banknotes. Each AZN banknote has two maps on the back side: a map of Europe on the left and a map of Azerbaijan in the centre. The Baku-based Azerbaycan Merkezi Banki (Central Bank of Azerbaijan) issued new manat banknotes with improved security features in 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2018. They circulate alongside the 2005-dated manat banknotes. All Azerbaijani manat banknotes dated 2005 and after are legal tender in Azerbaijan. The manat is a closed currency and therefore it's not easy to exchange Azerbaijani Manat banknotes outside Azerbaijan. We exchange all manat banknotes for cash.
