The Polish Zloty (PLN) is the currency of the Republic of Poland since 1995, replacing the Old Polish Zloty (PLZ) at a rate of 10,000 Old Zloty for 1 new Zloty. ‘Zloty’ means ‘golden’. The name ‘zloty’ was originally used for a gold coin introduced in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 16th century.

1975 - 1994Exchange Rate: £0.00001View BanknotesIn 1995, after years of high inflation, Poland dropped four zeroes from its national currency. The banknotes from the old Zloty were taken out of circulation and replaced by new Zloty banknotes at a rate of 10,000 old zlotych to 1 new zloty. These old Polish Zloty banknotes are no longer a means of payment in Poland. Poland's central bank, the Narodowy Bank Polski, no longer exchanges these obsolete old zlotych banknotes. They have lost all monetary value. At Leftover Currency we continue to exchange old Polish Zloty banknotes at a value that covers their collectable value. 1990 - 1990Exchange Rate: £0.00750View NotesThe Polish Zloty Nieobiegowy notes were prepared to be put into circulation following a future Polish Zloty 'revaluation'. However the banknotes were never issued, because of their poor security features and because inflation was not yet fully under control. These Zloty banknotes are all dated 1 March 1990. After it was decided that they were not going to be issued, most of the banknotes were pulped. The remaining stock of unissued zloty banknotes were overprinted with the text 'NIEOBIEGOWY', meaning 'not in circulation' or 'non-negotiable'. These Polish Zloty Nieobiegowy banknotes have no face value. We exchange these cancelled banknotes at an exchange rate that covers their collectable value.
