The Trinidad and Tobago dollar is the national currency of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago since 1964, following the country’s independence from the United Kingdom in 1962.
A member of the British Commonwealth, Trinidad and Tobagonian banknotes featured the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II until 1977. Since then all TT$ banknotes have the national coat of arms on their front side, with the national motto “Together we aspire, together we achieve”.

The old paper TTD dollars are no longer legal tender from December 2021. All current paper Trinidad and Tobago Dollar banknotes are made of polymer plastic and have one vertical serial number on the front side. They are from the series issued in 2015 (commemorative), 2019 and after. They are different to the older style paper TTD banknotes. All current banknotes in Trinidad and Tobago feature the national coat of arms and a bird species native to Trinidad or the small Caribbean island of Tobago. The banknotes in circulation in Trinidad and Tobago are $1, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 TTD.
