The Turkish Lira (TRY) is the currency of the Republic of Turkey since 2009, replacing the New Turkish Lira (YTL) at par. The New Turkish Lira was Turkey’s currency from 2005 to 2008, substituting the Old Turkish Lira at a rate of 1 Million old Lira for 1 new Lira. In 2009 the word ‘new’ was dropped. Besides Turkey, Turkish Lirasi are also used for payments in Northern Cyprus.
