Issued by the Bank of China, foreign exchange certificates were the only accepted means of payment in China for tourists and visitors from 1979 until 1995.
The Foreign Exchange Certificates lost their value after 1995 and are no longer exchangeable at the Bank of China. At Leftover Currency we continue to exchange foreign exchange certificates at a value that covers their collectable value. We also exchange withdrawn Chinese Yuan banknotes, Chinese coins and all current Renminbi banknotes.
All Bank of China foreign exchange certificates contain the following text: “The yuan expressed in this certificate is equivalent in value to the Renminbi yuan. This certificate can only be used within China at designated places. No request to register its loss will be accepted by the Bank.”
