Forumschecks are banknotes printed by the East German department Forum Außenhandelsgesellschaft during the Cold War. Western visitors to Communist DDR East Germany had to swap their Western Deutsche Mark banknotes for forum cheques. They were in use from 1979 until the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, after which Forumschecks could be exchanged for Deutsche marks for a limited time. The exchange deadline has long ago expired and Forum cheques are now obsolete.
