In 2016, the Zurich-based Swiss National Bank introduced a new set of Swiss Franc notes, the Ninth Series. They replaced the then circulating Eight Series francs. Issued by the Zurich-based Swiss National Bank since 1995, the Eight Series franc bills are vertically oriented.

The Seventh Series was designed but never issued. Banknotes of the Sixth Series were withdrawn in 1995 but remain exchangeable.
