The Banco de México issued Mexican Peso banknotes in 7 different denominations, including this 200 Mexican Pesos banknote (Hidalgo and Morelos). They are part of the current Mexican Peso banknotes series. The Banco de México started issuing these 200 Mexican Peso banknotes in 2019. They are currently still in circulation.
On the new $200 Mexican Pesos bill are two important figures from the Mexican War of Independence (1810–21). On the left side is the portrait of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, the Roman Catholic priest whose speech ‘Grito de Dolores’ inspired the Mexican people to rise up against the Spanish colonial rule. To the right is the portrait of José María Morelos who took over the leadership of the independence movement after Hidalgo’s execution. The back side shows an eagle at the UNESCO world heritage site of El Pinacate Y Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora.
