The Banco de México issued Mexican Peso banknotes in 7 different denominations,
including this 50 Mexican Pesos banknote (Series F). They are part of the current Mexican Peso banknotes series. The Banco de México started issuing
these 50 Mexican Peso banknotes in 2004. They were withdrawn from circulation in 2012.
The lilac coloured $50 Mexican pesos banknote is made from polymer, and depicts Jose Maria Morelos on the obverse side, and the Morelia aqueduct on the reverse. Morelos was a priest who became one of the rebel leaders during the Mexican War of Independence in the early 19th Century. He was the first President of Mexico following the Mexican insurgents’ declaration of independence in 1813. Fighting against the Spanish forces continued for many years and independence was not achieved until 1821.
