The Bank Negara Malaysia issued Malaysian Ringgit coins in 6 different denominations,
including this 50 sen coin Malaysia (Second series). They are part of the Malaysian Ringgit and Sen coins series. The Bank Negara Malaysia started issuing
these 0.5 Malaysian Ringgit coins in 1989. They were withdrawn from circulation in 2011.
This 50 sen coin from Malaysia is made of cupronickel. Like all coins in the second series, it has the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (Bunga Raya) flower on the side with the denomination, year and text ‘Bank Negara Malaysia’. The wau bulan (moon kite) features on the other side of the coin.
