They are part of the withdrawn Costa Rican Colones banknotes series. The Central Bank of Costa Rica started issuing these 2000 Costa Rican Colón banknotes in 1997. They were withdrawn from circulation in 2009.
Costa Rican scientist, Clodomiro Picado Twight, who pioneered research on snake venom is depicted on the frontside of this Dos Mil Colones banknote. The reverse side of the 2000 CRC bill features a dolphin and a hammerhead shark, swimming in a coral reef.
