Bank of England 10 Pounds Sterling polymer banknote (Jane Austen)

The Bank of England issued British Pound banknotes in 5 different denominations, including this Bank of England 10 Pounds Sterling polymer banknote (Jane Austen). They are part of the current Bank of England banknotes series. The Bank of England started issuing these 10 British Pound banknotes in 2017. They are currently still in circulation.

The new polymer £10 pound banknote from the Bank of England features English novelist Jane Austen. Elements on the brown coloured banknote include the Cathedral of Winchester, a writing quill, the building of the Bank of England in London and Jane Austen at her writing table. On the obverse side is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

The reverse side of the Ten Pound bill features a portrait of Jane Austen. In the background is an image of Godmersham Park in Kent. Jane Austen’s brother, Edward Austen Knight, lived here. It is believed that Godmersham Park, frequently visited by Jane Austen, was the inspiration for many of her novels. On the back side of the new £10 note is a quote from Austen’s novel Pride and Prejudice, reading ‘I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading!’.

According to the Bank of England, the new Jane Austen polymer £10 pound note has a smaller carbon footprint than the old Charles Darwin £10 pound paper banknote.
