The Croatian Kuna was Croatia’s national currency from 1994 until 2022. On 1 January 2023, the Balkan country introduced the Euro as its national currency.
The word ‘kuna’ means ‘marten’ in Croatian. The origin lies in the use of marten pelts as units of value in medieval trading. The name ‘kuna’ has no relation to the Slavic currencies called ‘koruna’.
The Croatian Kuna was introduced as the currency of the Republic of Croatia in 1994, replacing the Croatian Dinar at a ratio of 1000 dinar to 1 kuna.
