The Bank of Korea issued South Korean Won coins in 6 different denominations,
including this 10 South Korean won coin. They are part of the South Korean Won coins series. The Bank of Korea started issuing
these 10 South Korean Won coins in 2006. They are currently still in circulation.
This is the 10 South Korean won coin from the 4th Series. Previous versions of the 10 won coin were struck in brass or bronze. Because the metal value of brass and bronze 10 won coins now exceeds their face value, the 4th issue was cast in less valuable copper-plated aluminium instead. The building on the Series IV 10 won coin is Dabotap Pagoda, the ‘pagoda of many treasures’, located in Gyeongju. Dabotap Pagoda is a South Korean national treasure, built in the year 751.
