The Royal Belgian Mint issued Belgian Franc coins in 12 different denominations, including this 500 Belgian Francs coin (Five Kings). They are part of the Belgian Franc coins series. The Royal Belgian Mint started issuing these 500 Belgian Franc coins in 1980. They were withdrawn from circulation in 1990.
To mark the occasion of 150 years of independence of the Kingdom of Belgium, this commemorative coin was issued in a large numbers, although it wasn’t a normal circulating coin in Belgium. The 500F piece features the portraits of five Kings of Belgium: Leopold I, Leopold II, Albert I, Leopold III and Baudouin I. The text on the 500 Belgian Francs coin is both in French and Dutch, two of the three official languages of Belgium. The coin was demonetized in 1990.
