The Cruzado was the national currency of Brazil from 1986 until 1989. The Brasília-based Banco Central do Brasil initially issued Brazilian Cruzado banknotes in denominations from Cz$10 to Cz$500 Cruzados. Due to high inflation there was a need to issue higher denomination banknotes, resulting in Cruzado bills of Cz$1000, Cz$5000 and Cz$10000 issued between 1987 and 1989.
The value of Brazilian Cruzado banknotes was wiped out entirely by inflation. Cruzados are no longer exchangeable at the Banco Central do Brasil. However at Leftover Currency we continue to exchange the demonetized Cruzado banknotes for a rate that covers their small collectible value.
