The People's Bank of China issued Chinese Yuan coins in 6 different denominations,
including this 5 Chinese Jiao coin (National Emblem). They are part of the Chinese Yuan Renminbi coins series. The People's Bank of China started issuing
these 0.5 Chinese Yuan coins in 1991. They were withdrawn from circulation in 2000.
The old type of the 5 Chinese Jiao coin features the national emblem of China. Text on the coin reads ‘Wu Jiao’, meaning ‘Five Jiao’, which is the equivalent of half a Renminbi.
