The Banco de México issued Mexican Peso coins in 9 different denominations,
including this 10 Mexican Pesos coin. They are part of the Mexican Peso and Centavos coins series. The Banco de México started issuing
these 10 Mexican Peso coins in 1997. They are currently still in circulation.
This 10 Mexican peso coin is the largest, heaviest and highest value coin in circulation in Mexico today. Unlike the other Mexican bimetallic coins, the $10 coin’s outer ring is made of aluminium bronze. It has a silver coloured centre made from copper-nickel-zinc. On one side there is the Mexican national arms. The design on the reverse represents the sun god Tonatiuh, taken from the Piedra del Sol or Sun Stone, housed in Mexico City.
