The Central Bank of Barbados issued Barbadian Dollar coins in 5 different denominations, including this 1 dollar coin Barbados. They are part of the Barbadian Dollar coins series. The Central Bank of Barbados started issuing these 1 Barbadian Dollar coins in 1973. They are currently still in circulation.
The $1 Bajan dollar coin exists in a large version (1973-1986) and a smaller version (1988 and after), we accept both types for exchange. On the front of the $1 Barbadian dollar piece is the national fish of Barbados: the flying fish. Barbados is known as ‘the land of the flying fish’. On the back side is the national coat of arms, featuring a helmet, a fist holding two sticks of sugar cane, a fig tree, two flowers, a dolphin fish and a pelican. The One Dollar coin from Barbados is a 7-sided ‘heptagon’, very similar in shape to the British 50p coin.
