They were withdrawn from circulation in 1981.

The person pictured on the front of the Cr $10 Cruzeiros banknote is not Charles Darwin, although certainly a lookalike, but Dom Pedro II, the second Emperor of Brazil. On the back side of the Dez Cruzeiros bill is the statue of the Prophet Daniel, in Congonhas, by Antônio Francisco Lisboa, more commonly known as Aleijadinho, architect and sculptor of Colonial Brazil.
