10 Peruvian Sol banknote (José Gonzales)

The Banco Central de Reserva del Peru issued Peruvian Sol banknotes in 6 different denominations, including this 10 Peruvian Sol banknote (José Gonzales). They are part of the current Peruvian Sol banknotes series. The Banco Central de Reserva del Peru started issuing these 10 Peruvian Sol banknotes in 2009. They are currently still in circulation.

In common with all the current banknotes from Peru, the 10 Nuevos Soles features a portrait of a famous Peruvian on the front, and an archaeological site the reverse. This 10 Sol commemorates the pilot José Quiñones Gonzales who sacrificed himself during the Batalla de Zarumilla, and on the reverse is the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site site of Machu Pichchu in the Andes Mountains. All notes in this series also show the Peruvian national coat of arms, which consists of shield surrounded by flags and a wreath. Within the shield are a vicuña, the wild descendant of domesticated alpacas, a quinine tree (the national tree of Peru), and a horn with coins inside (a cornucopia).
