The Vietnamese Dong is the currency of united Vietnam, following the reunification of North Vietnam and South Vietnam in 1978. The word ‘dong’ refers to the Chinese bronze coins, also known as ‘cash’: round outer shape coins with a square center hole. The dong is the third least valuable national currency in the world.
