10 Dutch Guilders banknote (Lieftincktientje)
The Nederlandsche Bank issued Dutch Guilder banknotes in 11 different denominations,
including this 10 Dutch Guilders banknote (Lieftincktientje). They are part of the Dutch Guilder banknotes series. The Nederlandsche Bank started issuing
these 10 Dutch Guilder banknotes in 1945. They were withdrawn from circulation in 1949.
This 10 Guilder banknote, called ‘Lieftincktientje’ was issued shortly after the end of the Second World War. It was named after the Dutch Minister of Finance, Pieter Lieftinck. After 5 years under German occupation, Holland was free again. This banknote celebrates the regained independence. The front side features the Coat of Arms of the Netherlands and the national Motto ‘Je Maintiendrai’. Printed around the Coat of Arms is a line from the Sixt stanza of the Wilhelmus, the national anthem of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
