The purple and blue 50 new Taiwan dollar banknote, known as 50 yuan in Chinese, has a portrait of Sun Yat-sen, the first president of the Republic of China. On the reverse of the note is the Chung-Shan building that was constructed in 1965 by President Chiang Kai-shek to honour Taiwan’s founding father Sun Yat-sen and celebrate traditional Chinese culture.
