10,000 Israeli Old Shekel banknote (1978 to 1984 issue)
The Bank of Israel issued Israeli Old Shekel banknotes in 9 different denominations, including this 10,000 Israeli Old Shekel banknote (1978 to 1984 issue). They are part of the obsolete Israeli Old Shekel banknotes series. The Bank of Israel started issuing these 10000 Israeli Old Shekel banknotes in 1984. They were withdrawn from circulation in 1985.
Due to hyperinflation, the Old Israeli Shekel quickly lost most of its purchasing power and the Bank of Israel had to issue banknotes of ever higher denominations. This banknote of 10,000 Israeli Old Sheqalim was the latest banknote issued, in 1984, before the Israeli Old Shekel was replaced by the New Shekel at a rate of 1000:1. As a result, in 1985 this banknote of 10,000 Old sheqalim was replaced by a similarly designed banknote of 10 New Shekel. Both banknotes feature the portrait of Golda Meir, fourth Prime Minister of the State of Israel. On the backside is a crowd of people gathering in front of the Moscow Choral Synagogue.
