5,000 Israeli Old Shekel banknote (1978 to 1984 issue)
The Bank of Israel issued Israeli Old Shekel banknotes in 9 different denominations, including this 5,000 Israeli Old Shekel banknote (1978 to 1984 issue). They are part of the obsolete Israeli Old Shekel banknotes series. The Bank of Israel started issuing these 5000 Israeli Old Shekel banknotes in 1984. They were withdrawn from circulation in 1985.
As a result of very high inflation, Israel replaced it national currency in 1985. This banknote of 5,000 old sheqalim was replaced by the similarly designed 5 new sheqalim banknote: Three zeroes were dropped. Both notes feature the portrait of Levi Eshkol, Israel’s third Prime Minister. On the back side of the 5,000 old shekel bill from 1984 is an image of a water pipe in the desert.
