A revolutionary leader and national hero, Morelos installed the Congress of Anáhuac which declared Mexico’s independence in 1814. On the back side of the Quinientos Pesos bill is an image of the Palacio de Minería in Mexico City, a neoclassical grand building designed by Spanish sculptor and architect Manuel Tolsá.
