Brazil had many different national currencies before the Brazilian Real, during periods of economic turbulence in the second half of the 20th century, including the Cruzeiro named currencies:
The First Cruzeiro (CR$) was in use between 1942 and 1967. The Second Cruzeiro (BRB) was in use between 1967 and 1986, after which Brazil re-introduced the Brazilian Cruzado as its national currency. The Third Cruzeiro (BRE) was in use between 1990 and 1993. A short-lived Cruzeiro Real (BRR) was in use in 1993 and 1994, after which Brazil switched to its current national currency the Real.
