They were withdrawn from circulation in 2010.

This 2000 Sri Lanka Rupees banknote shows the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sigiriya (also known as Sinhagiri) rock, and a Sesatha ceremonial flag on the front. The image on the rear of the old Rs2000 Sri Lankan bill is one of the Sigiriya Maidens depicted in the 21 frescoes found on the Sigiriya rock.
