50 Sri Lankan rupees banknote (Kelaniya Temple)
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka issued Sri Lankan Rupee banknotes in 11 different denominations,
including this 50 Sri Lankan rupees banknote (Kelaniya Temple). They are part of the withdrawn Sri Lankan Rupees banknotes series. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka started issuing
these 50 Sri Lankan Rupee banknotes in 1982. They were withdrawn from circulation in 1991.
There are temples on both the obverse and reverse sides of the 50 Sri Lankan Rupees banknote. On the front of the old Rs50 bill is the Buddist temple Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara in Kelaniya, and on the back of the note are the ruins of Lankatilaka Viharaya in Polonnaruwa.
